In a home that is heated with wood\, he is also mastering splitting and stacking firewood\, which he says is “one of the best things a person can do with a winter afternoon.” \nIt is in this setting that Depew writes and creates music. Depew’s earliest memories involve music while playing instruments on the porch with his dad in the evenings. \nSuch intimacy is what Depew achieves with his latest release of songs. At first one may want to say the songs are simple and straightforward as an Americana song seems. But the complex layers of Depew’s music subtly unfold. The lyrics are often haunting and longing\, guided by the mastery of instruments. The beauty and hardship of life weave together in each piece.
